ETHYL ALCOHOL 70 %

INSTRUCTIONS FOR MEDICAL USE OF THE MEDICINAL PRODUCT SPIRTUS ETHYLICUS 70 % (ETHANOL 70 %)

Composition:

Active substance: ethanol;

contains at 20 °C not less than 69.3 % vol/vol and not more than 70.7 % vol/vol of ethanol and water.

Pharmaceutical form. Solution for external use.

Main physico-chemical properties: clear, colorless, volatile, flammable liquid. Hygroscopic.

Antiseptics and disinfectants. ATC code D08A X08.

Pharmacological properties.

Pharmacodynamics.

Exerts antiseptic, disinfectant, and local irritant effects when applied externally. Ethanol coagulates proteins and is active against gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria as well as viruses.

Pharmacokinetics.

Not absorbed through the skin when applied locally.

Clinical characteristics.

Indications.

Furuncles, felon (whitlow), infiltrates, mastitis in the initial stages. For wiping and compresses. Surgical hand disinfection.

Contraindications.

Hypersensitivity. Should not be used in acute inflammatory skin conditions.

Special precautions.

If redness or skin irritation occurs, discontinue use of the product and wash the area with water.

Avoid contact with eyes!

Interaction with other medicinal products and other forms of interaction.

When ethanol is used topically, interactions with other medicinal products are unknown.

Special precautions for use.

Use during pregnancy or breastfeeding.

During pregnancy and breastfeeding, the use of the medicinal product is possible only if the expected benefit to the mother outweighs the potential risk to the fetus or infant.

Ability to affect reaction rate when driving or operating machinery.

Has no effect.

Method of Administration and Dosage.

External use – for wiping, compresses, and disinfection of the skin, including hands.

For compresses and wiping (to prevent irritation), ethanol should be diluted with water in a 1:1 ratio.

Children.

Use only as directed by a physician.

Overdose.

Cases of overdose are unknown with external application.

Side effects.

Skin or mucous membrane irritation may occur with local use.

If any adverse reactions occur, consult a doctor.

Shelf life. 5 years.

Do not use the drug after the expiry date stated on the packaging.

Storage conditions.

Store in the original packaging at a temperature not exceeding 25 °C, away from fire.

Keep out of reach of children.
