INSTRUCTION FOR MEDICAL USE OF THE MEDICINAL PRODUCT BONJIGAR (BONJIGAR)

Composition:

Active substances: 5 ml of syrup contains:
Extract of leaf of white eclipta (Eclipta alba) thick (4~5:1) (extraction agent – purified water) – 50 mg;
Extract of root and rhizome of Picrorrhiza kurroa thick (Picrorrhiza kurroa) (4~5:1) (extraction agent – purified water) – 50 mg;
Extract of fruit of black nightshade thick (Solanum nigrum) (4~5:1) (extraction agent – purified water) – 50 mg;
Extract of seed of common chicory thick (Cichorium intybus) (4~5:1) (extraction agent – purified water) – 50 mg;
Extract of root and rhizome of Glycyrrhiza glabra thick (Glycyrrhiza glabra) (4~5:1) (extraction agent – purified water) – 50 mg;
Extract of fruit of Tamarix gallica thick (Tamarix gallica) (4~5:1) (extraction agent – purified water) – 10 mg;
Extract of seed of Raphanus sativus thick (Raphanus sativus) (4~5:1) (extraction agent – purified water) – 25 mg;

Excipients: sucrose, anhydrous citric acid, glycerin, methylparaben E 218, propylparaben E 216, flavor Tuttì-Frutti CG-2879, flavor chocolate vanilla PDF-144, propylene glycol, purified water.

Pharmaceutical form. Syrup.

Main physicochemical properties: red-brown syrup-like liquid with a characteristic aromatic odor and specific sweet taste. Formation of sediment is permissible, which dissolves upon shaking.

Pharmacological properties.

A complex herbal preparation whose effect, due to the combined action of its components, is directed toward normalization of gastrointestinal tract function. The medicinal product activates the liver's detoxification function, accelerates the tricarboxylic acid cycle, promoting the elimination of protein metabolism products (including ammonia) from the body, and possesses hepatoprotective properties. It exerts anti-inflammatory action. Improves bile outflow. Prevents formation of fatty deposits in the liver. Protects liver cells against toxic agents (alcohol, D-galactosamine, carbon tetrachloride). Normalizes the liver's metabolic function.

Clinical characteristics.

Indications.

As part of complex therapy in chronic toxic hepatitis, gallbladder dysfunction, and biliary tract disorders.

Contraindications.

Hypersensitivity to the components of the medicinal product. Pregnancy, renal function impairment, arterial hypertension, hypokalemia, severe obesity, organic heart diseases (myocarditis, pericarditis, myocardial infarction), diabetes mellitus.

Acute poisonings of various etiologies.

Interaction with other medicinal products and other types of interactions.

Concomitant use with cardiac glycosides, antiarrhythmic agents (quinidine), thiazide and loop diuretics, adrenocorticosteroids, and laxatives may enhance hypokalemia; therefore, prolonged simultaneous use of the above-mentioned medicinal products should be avoided.

Special precautions for use

In the presence of concrements in the biliary tract, the decision on the appropriateness of using the medicinal product should be made based on the size of the concrements (as determined by ultrasound examination).

Prolonged use of the medicinal product is not recommended. If jaundice develops, a physician should be consulted to adjust the therapy.

Important information about excipients

The presence of methylparaben (E 218) and propylparaben (E 216) may cause allergic reactions (possibly delayed).

The medicinal product contains sucrose, which may be harmful to teeth.

Use during pregnancy or breastfeeding

The medicinal product is contraindicated during pregnancy because licorice root, an ingredient of the product, increases estrogen levels, thereby disrupting hormonal balance. If it is necessary to use the medicinal product, breastfeeding should be discontinued.

Dosage and Administration.

For adults: take 2 teaspoons (10 ml) of syrup 3 times daily after meals.

Children. Do not use in children.

Overdose.

Symptoms: nausea, vomiting, weakness.

Treatment is symptomatic.

Prolonged use of licorice preparations in excessive doses may lead to disturbances in water-electrolyte balance (including hypokalemia); in individual cases, hypokalemic myopathy and myoglobinuria are possible.

Adverse reactions.

In isolated cases, allergic reactions may occur, including itching, skin rashes, skin hyperemia, angioneurotic edema, shortness of breath, as well as increased diuresis, dyspeptic symptoms, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, disturbances in water-electrolyte balance (development of edema), and increased blood pressure.

If any adverse reactions occur, discontinue use of the medicinal product and consult a physician immediately.

Shelf life. 3 years.

Storage conditions.

Store in the original packaging at a temperature not exceeding 25 °C.

Keep out of reach of children.
