Can the ointment be combined with other medicines?

It is undesirable to take digitoxin, hydrochloric acid, caffeine, mezaton, phenobarbital, and adrenaline hydrochloride. Additionally, novocaine may reduce the efficacy of the ointment if they are applied immediately one after another.

What should be done if you accidentally used too much ointment?

Overdose may increase the side effects of the preparation. In such cases, symptomatic therapy is administered.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR MEDICAL USE OF THE MEDICINAL PRODUCT STREPTOCIDE

Composition:

Active ingredient: 1 g of ointment contains 100 mg of sulfanilamide;

Excipients: white soft paraffin, mineral oil.

Pharmaceutical form. Ointment.

Main physicochemical properties: homogeneous thick mass of white or light yellow color.

Pharmacological properties.

Pharmacodynamics.

The drug exerts antimicrobial effects against streptococci and other microorganisms. Streptocide disrupts the microbial cell's assimilation of its growth factors—folic acid, dihydrofolic acid, and other compounds containing para-aminobenzoic acid (PABA). Due to the similarity in chemical structure between PABA and sulfanilamide, the latter acts as a competitive antagonist of the acid, entering microbial metabolism and disrupting it.

Clinical characteristics.

Indications.

Ulcers, burns, fissures, wounds, pyoderma, skin ulcers, purulent-inflammatory skin conditions not accompanied by pronounced exudation, infected wounds in the regeneration phase.

Contraindications.

Hypersensitivity to the components of the drug or to any other sulfonamide agents.

Renal insufficiency, acute porphyria.

Special precautions.

If an allergic reaction occurs at the site of ointment application, the use of the drug should be discontinued.

Premature discontinuation of treatment may lead to the development of sulfonamide-resistant microorganisms.

Interaction with other medicinal products and other types of interactions.

During the use of Streptocide ointment, it is undesirable to take digoxin, hydrochloric acid, caffeine, mesaton, phenobarbital, epinephrine hydrochloride. Procaine, which contains a para-aminobenzoic acid residue, reduces the effectiveness of the drug when these medicinal products are used consecutively.

Special precautions.

Use during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
