How should this drug be used correctly?

The product is intended for external use only. A swab should be moistened with the solution and applied to the affected areas of the pharynx and larynx 3–4 times a day.

Who should not use Lugol's solution with glycerin?

The drug is contraindicated in individuals with hypersensitivity to its components, severe liver and kidney diseases, pronounced hyperthyroidism, as well as decompensated cardiac, renal, or hepatic failure. It must not be used during pregnancy, breastfeeding, or 2 weeks before and after radioactive iodine studies or therapy.

Can the drug be given to children?

The use of the drug in children under 5 years of age is not recommended.

What side effects may occur from prolonged use?

Prolonged use may lead to signs of iodism: rhinitis, urticaria, angioedema (Quincke's edema), lacrimation, excessive salivation, skin rashes, muscle weakness, or lethargy.

With which other agents should this solution not be combined?

This drug must not be used simultaneously with hydrogen peroxide solution or other disinfectants.

What should be done in case of overdose?

It is necessary to immediately discontinue the use of the drug and seek symptomatic therapy.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR MEDICAL USE OF THE MEDICINAL PRODUCT LUGOL'S SOLUTION WITH GLYCEROL

Composition:

Active substances: iodine, potassium iodide;

1 g of solution contains 10 mg iodine, 20 mg potassium iodide;

Excipients: purified water, glycerol.

Pharmaceutical form. Oro-mucosal solution.

Main physicochemical characteristics: transparent, syrupy, reddish-brown liquid with an odor of iodine.

Pharmacotherapeutic group. Preparations used in throat diseases. Antiseptics. ATC code R02A A20.

Pharmacological properties.

Pharmacodynamics. Lugol's solution with glycerin exerts a bactericidal effect due to the presence of free iodine. The medicinal product has antimicrobial activity against gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, including streptococci, staphylococci, Escherichia coli, Klebsiella species, and Proteus vulgaris.

Pharmacokinetics. Not studied.

Clinical characteristics.

Indications.

Inflammatory diseases of the mucous membranes of the pharynx and larynx: laryngitis, tonsillitis, pharyngitis.

Contraindications.

Hypersensitivity to the components of the drug. Severe liver and kidney diseases, pronounced hyperfunction of the thyroid gland, decompensated cardiac, renal or hepatic insufficiency; radioactive iodine diagnostics or therapy (2 weeks before and after the procedure or treatment).

Interaction with other medicinal products and other forms of interaction.

Do not use simultaneously with hydrogen peroxide solution and other antiseptic agents.

Special precautions for use.

The medicinal product is not intended for oral administration. Do not inhale and/or swallow the product. Avoid contact of the product with eyes. Use with caution in laryngitis due to the possibility of laryngospasm; in tuberculosis, hemorrhagic diatheses.

Do not violate the instructions for use of the medicinal product – this may harm your health.

Use during pregnancy or breastfeeding.

The product is contraindicated during pregnancy or breastfeeding.

Iodism may occur (rhinitis, urticaria, Quincke's edema, lacrimation, salivation, skin rashes, muscle weakness, lethargy).

Treatment. Immediate discontinuation of the drug and symptomatic therapy.
