LINIMENT BALSAMIC (BY O.W. VISHNEVSKY)

INSTRUCTIONS FOR MEDICAL USE OF THE MEDICINAL PRODUCT BALSAMIC LINIMENT (BY A.V. VISHNEVSKY)

Composition:

Active substances: 1 g of the preparation contains 0.03 g of birch tar, 0.03 g of xeroform;

Excipients: colloidal anhydrous silicon dioxide, castor oil.

Pharmaceutical form. Liniment.

Main physicochemical properties: the liniment is of light yellow to brown color, with a specific odor. The liniment should be homogeneous in appearance.

Pharmacotherapeutic group.

Antiseptics and disinfectants. ATC code D08AX.

Pharmacological properties.

Pharmacodynamics. The drug has antiseptic properties. It exerts a mild irritant effect on tissue receptors, promotes acceleration of epidermal regeneration, normalizing tissue blood supply.

Clinical characteristics.

Indications.

Local treatment of purulent-inflammatory processes (abscesses, furuncles), as well as infected wounds, trophic ulcers, pressure sores, frostbite, and burns.

Contraindications.

Hypersensitivity to phenol and its derivatives, as well as to other components of the drug.

Interaction with other medicinal products and other forms of interaction.

When used simultaneously on the same areas of skin with other topical medicinal products, new compounds with unpredictable effects may be formed.

Special precautions for use

The liniment is intended for external use only. Avoid contact of the liniment with mucous membranes. Prior to applying a dressing, the wound should be cleaned from necrotic tissues, blisters should be opened, and the wound should be rinsed with an antiseptic solution.

Birch tar contained in the balsamic liniment may increase sensitivity to sunlight; therefore, during summer, exposure to sunlight should be avoided while using this product.

If symptoms of the disease do not begin to subside, or conversely, if the patient's condition worsens, or if any adverse reactions occur, use of the product must be discontinued and medical advice should be sought for further treatment.

Avoid contact of the liniment with eyes. In case of accidental contact with eyes, rinse thoroughly with water and seek immediate medical advice.

Use during pregnancy or breastfeeding

During pregnancy or breastfeeding, the decision to use this product should be made by a physician, taking into account the benefit to the mother versus the potential risk to the fetus or infant.

Ability to affect reaction rate when driving or operating machinery

There is no information available regarding the effect of this product on reaction speed when driving or operating machinery.

Method of administration and dosage.

For external use only. Apply to affected skin areas in a thin layer 2–3 times daily. Alternatively, apply a fixing dressing consisting of 5–6 layers of gauze soaked with the preparation. Treatment duration, ranging from 6 to 20 days, is determined by the physician depending on disease course and patient's condition.

Children.

The safety and efficacy of the drug in children have not been established.

Overdose.

Possible manifestations of local allergic reactions (including rash, itching).

Side effects.

With prolonged use, local allergic reactions may occur (including hyperemia, itching, skin rashes, urticaria, swelling).
