Pharmacodynamics.
Lasea, containing lavender oil Silexan®, exerts antidepressant, anxiolytic, and calming effects following oral administration of the drug. In vitro studies have shown that Silexan® interacts with voltage-operated calcium channels (VOCCs), primarily of the P/Q-type; however, the mechanism of action or the binding site on calcium channels has not been elucidated. There are reports indicating that lavender oil affects GABA receptors by potentiating the GABA response. Linalool, the main component of lavender oil, interacts with glutamate receptors, inhibits glutamate uptake, as well as its release, and modulates GABA receptors.
Pharmacokinetics.
There are no published studies on the pharmacokinetics of lavender oil following oral administration.
