How should Calgan be prepared and taken correctly?

To prepare a decoction, pour 200 ml of hot water over 1 tablespoon of crushed rhizomes and infuse in a water bath for 30 minutes, then strain. Filter bags can also be used: pour 100 ml of boiling water over 2 bags and infuse for 20-30 minutes. Adults should take 1 tablespoon of the warm decoction 3-5 times a day, 30-40 minutes before meals. The course of treatment is 2-4 weeks. The prepared decoction can be stored in a refrigerator for no more than 2 days.

What side effects may occur from taking Calgan?

Hypersensitivity reactions, irritation of the mucous membrane, as well as stomach pain, nausea, and vomiting are possible. If such symptoms appear, administration should be discontinued and a doctor should be consulted.

Who should not take this drug?

The drug is contraindicated in cases of constipation and individual sensitivity to its components. It should also not be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Can this product be given to children?

In children, the drug can only be used topically—for rinsing in case of inflammation of the oral cavity and throat.

How does the drug interact with other medicines?

At least 1 hour should elapse between taking this product and other medicinal products.

What should be done in case of overdose?

An overdose may cause stomach pain; in such a case, it is necessary to immediately discontinue the use of the drug.

I N S T R U C T I O N for medical use of the medicinal product KALGAN (CALGAN)

Composition:

Active substance: rhizome of Potentilla erecta.

Pharmaceutical form. Rhizomes.

Main physico-chemical properties: fragments of rhizomes of various shapes, ranging in color from dark red to tawny-yellow, with reddish-brown and brown inclusions.

Pharmacotherapeutic group. Agents affecting the digestive system and metabolism. ATC code A16AX.

Pharmacological properties.

Pharmacodynamics.

Biologically active substances of the drug exert astringent, bactericidal, anti-inflammatory, and hemostatic effects, reduce capillary permeability, and constrict blood vessels.

Clinical characteristics.

Indications.

Gastrointestinal disorders (gastritis, dyspepsia, enteritis, enterocolitis); gastric, intestinal, and uterine bleeding (in inflammatory conditions). For external use – in inflammatory diseases of the oral cavity and throat.

Contraindications.

Hypersensitivity to biologically active substances of the drug. Constipation.

Interaction with other medicinal products and other forms of interactions. The interval between administration of this drug and other medicinal products should be at least 1 hour.

Special precautions for use.

Use during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Contraindicated.

Ability to affect reaction speed when driving or operating machinery. Not established.

Method of Administration and Dosage.

Place 1 tablespoon of crushed rhizomes into an enameled container, pour 200 ml of hot boiled water, cover and let steep in a water bath for 30 minutes. Strain, squeeze the residue into the strained decoction. Adjust the decoction volume to 200 ml with boiled water. Use warm, 30–40 minutes before meals: adults – 1 tablespoon 3–5 times daily. Treatment duration: 2–4 weeks.

Place 2 filter packets into a glass or enameled container, pour 100 ml of boiling water, cover and let steep for 20–30 minutes. Use warm, 30–40 minutes before meals: adults – 1 tablespoon 3–5 times daily. Treatment duration: 2–4 weeks. Prepared decoction should be stored in the refrigerator (at 2–8 °C) for no more than 2 days.

For external use in adults and children as a mouthwash.

Children. The drug should be used externally only in children – for inflammatory diseases of the oral cavity and throat.

Overdose. Possible stomach pain; if this occurs, discontinue the drug.

Side effects.

Possible development of hypersensitivity reactions. Irritation of the mucous membranes is possible. When taken internally, stomach pain, nausea, and vomiting may occur. If adverse reactions occur, discontinue use of the medication and consult a physician.

Shelf life. 4 years.

Do not use after the expiry date stated on the packaging.

Storage conditions. Store in a place inaccessible to children, at a temperature not exceeding 30 °C.
