It is used as a supplementary oxygen source in the treatment of, among others, severe heart and lung diseases, shock, severe bleeding, carbon monoxide poisoning, high fever, and in situations of sudden cardiac or respiratory arrest. It is also used during general anesthesia and in pre- and post-operative care.
