How to correctly prepare a Chamomile flowers infusion?

If using flowers: pour 200 ml of hot water over 3 tablespoons, infuse in a water bath for 15 min, cool for 45 min, strain, and top up with water to a volume of 200 ml. If using filter bags: pour 200 ml of boiling water over 2 bags and infuse for 15 min.

What is the dosage of Chamomile flowers for adults and children?

Adults and children aged 14 and older — 1/3 cup (if prepared from flowers) or 1 cup (if from filter bags) 3 times a day after meals. For younger children, the dosage is reduced according to age (from 2/3 cup down to 1/2 teaspoon for infants). For external use, the infusion is used for rinsing 3-4 times a day.

Can the preparation be taken by pregnant women or children?

Pregnant and breastfeeding women should only use the preparation if prescribed by a physician, provided the benefit to the mother outweighs the risk to the child. For children from 6 months of age, the preparation may be used as prescribed by a physician.

Who should not use this remedy?

The preparation is contraindicated in individuals with hypersensitivity to any of its components.

What are the possible side effects?

Allergic reactions may occur, such as redness (hyperemia), rash, itching, or skin swelling. In such cases, use should be discontinued.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR MEDICAL USE OF THE MEDICINAL PRODUCT CHAMOMILE FLOWERS

Composition:

Active substance: chamomile flowers (matricariaeflores);

One pack contains chamomie flowers (matricariaeflores) 40 g or 50 g;

One filter bag contains chamomile flowers (matricariaeflores) 1.5 g.

Pharmaceutical form. Flowers.

Main physico-chemical properties: whole or partially disintegrated flower heads of hemispherical or conical shape, without flower stalks or with remnants not exceeding 3 cm in length.

Powdery mass, a mixture of particles of pale-yellow, yellow, white, yellowish-green colour.

Pharmaco-therapeutic group.

Agents affecting the digestive system and metabolic processes. ATC Code A16A X.

Pharmacological properties.

Chamomile flowers contain essential oil composed of chamazulene, prochamazulene, other terpenes and sesquiterpenes, as well as flavonoids, coumarins, polysaccharides, mineral salts, carotene, ascorbic acid, sitosterol, choline, and organic acids. This complex of biologically active substances exerts spasmolytic, analgesic, anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, diaphoretic, choleretic, and sedative effects. Preparations from chamomile flowers reduce allergic reactions, improve regenerative processes, enhance secretory activity of digestive glands, stimulate appetite, relieve intestinal spasms, and reduce fermentation processes in the gut.

Indications.

Oral administration is indicated for gastritis, inflammatory diseases of the liver and gallbladder, enterocolitis, meteorism, and respiratory infections.

For external use – in inflammatory diseases of the oral cavity and throat.

Contraindications.

Individual hypersensitivity to biologically active substances contained in the medicinal product.

Interaction with other medicinal products and other forms of interaction.

The medicinal product should be used during pregnancy or breastfeeding only on the recommendation of a physician, if the benefit to the mother outweighs the potential risk to the fetus/child.

Ability to influence the speed of reactions when driving vehicles or operating machinery.

Method of Administration and Dosage

Place 3 tablespoons of flowers into an enameled container, pour 200 ml of hot boiled water, cover with a lid, and steep in a boiling water bath for 15 minutes. Cool at room temperature for 45 minutes, strain, and squeeze the residue. Add boiled water to the strained infusion to adjust the volume to 200 ml.

The infusion is taken warm, 3 times daily after meals: for adults and children aged 14 years and older – 1/3 cup; for children aged 12–14 years – 1/4 cup; aged 7–12 years – 2 tablespoons; aged 3–7 years – 1 tablespoon; aged 1–3 years – 1 dessert spoon; aged 6 months to 1 year – ½ to 1 teaspoon. Externally, the infusion is used for rinsing 3–4 times daily. Shake the infusion before use.

Place 2 filter packets into a glass or enameled container, pour 200 ml of boiling water, cover, and let steep for 15 minutes. Use warm, 3 times daily after meals: for adults and children aged 14 years and older – 1 cup; for children aged 12–14 years – 2/3 cup; aged 7–12 years – ½ cup; aged 3–7 years – ¼ cup; aged 1–3 years – 2 tablespoons; aged 6 months to 1 year – 1 dessert spoon. Externally, the infusion is used for rinsing 3–4 times daily.

The duration of treatment is determined individually by a physician.

Children. Can be administered to children from 6 months of age as prescribed by a physician.

Overdose.

No reports of overdose have been reported.

Side effects.

Allergic reactions are possible (including hyperemia, rash, itching, and skin swelling).

If adverse reactions occur, discontinue use of the product.

Shelf life. 2 years.

Storage conditions.

Store in the original packaging at a temperature not exceeding 25 °C.

Keep out of reach of children.

The prepared infusion should be stored at a temperature between 8 °C and 15 °C for no more than 2 days.
