Frequently asked questions

How should Althaea roots be correctly prepared and taken?

Pour 100 ml of boiled water at room temperature over 1 tablespoon of roots and infuse for 1 hour in a water bath, then strain. Adults and children aged 12 and older should take 1 tablespoon 4–6 times a day. Children aged 7–12 years — 1 tablespoon 4 times a day. Children aged 3–7 years — 1 dessert spoon 4–6 times a day. The infusion should be taken warm.

Who should not use this remedy?

The preparation should not be used in case of hypersensitivity to its components. It is also not recommended for a dry cough, as it may worsen. Use is not recommended for pregnant and breastfeeding women.

What are the possible side effects of Althaea roots?

Possible allergic reactions (itching, skin rash), increased salivation, and irritation of the gastric mucosa. In case of overdose, nausea and vomiting may occur.

Can the preparation be taken with other medicines?

The preparation may slow the absorption of other medicines. It can be combined with anti-inflammatory agents (which will increase their effectiveness) and with sodium bicarbonate. When used in combination with antibiotics, it increases their concentration in the respiratory tract. However, it is not recommended to take it simultaneously with antitussive agents (e.g., codeine), as this may lead to mucus accumulation.

When should you seek medical attention urgently during use?

If shortness of breath, fever, or purulent sputum develops during treatment, you must consult a doctor immediately.
