The drug is used to treat infections caused by microorganisms sensitive to it. Specifically, it is prescribed for the treatment of severe uncomplicated urinary tract infections, the treatment and prevention of pneumonia (caused by Pneumocystis jiroveci), as well as for the treatment and prevention of toxoplasmosis.
