The drug is used to control phosphorus levels (hyperphosphatemia) in adult patients on hemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis, as well as in adults with chronic kidney disease not undergoing dialysis (if blood phosphorus levels exceed 1.78 mmol/L). It is also indicated for children over 6 years of age with chronic kidney disease.
