The drug is used to treat anemia caused by chronic kidney disease (in adults and children on dialysis or peritoneal dialysis), as well as anemia in patients receiving chemotherapy for tumors. It is also used to increase autologous blood volume before surgery and in certain forms of myelodysplastic syndrome.
