The drug is prescribed for the treatment of pneumonia (hospital-acquired and community-acquired), bronchopulmonary infections in cystic fibrosis, complicated urinary tract infections, intra-abdominal infections, skin and soft tissue infections, infections during and after childbirth, as well as acute bacterial meningitis. It is also used in febrile neutropenia and bacteremia.
