The drug is used to treat bacterial meningitis, pneumonia (community-acquired and hospital-acquired), acute otitis media, intra-abdominal infections, complicated urinary tract infections, skin, soft tissue, bone, and joint infections, as well as gonorrhea, syphilis, and bacterial endocarditis. It may also be used for the prevention of infections before surgery and in the case of Lyme borreliosis.
