It is used for diseases that cause oxygen deprivation (hypoxia), such as pneumonia, pulmonary edema, bronchial asthma, heart failure, and coronary insufficiency. It is also applied in cases of carbon monoxide or asphyxiant gas poisoning, during anesthesia, for the preparation of oxygen cocktails, and for the treatment of certain parasitic diseases (ascariasis, trichocephalosis).
