The drug is used to treat infections caused by bacteria sensitive to it. In adults, these may include respiratory tract infections (pneumonia, bronchitis), skin and soft tissue infections, intra-abdominal infections (peritonitis), gynecological infections, and septicemia. In children, the drug is prescribed for pneumonia, urinary tract infections, skin infections, septicemia, bacterial meningitis, and for empirical therapy in neutropenic fever.
