The drug is used to achieve and maintain remission in acute non-lymphoblastic leukemias in adults and children, as well as for the treatment of other types of leukemia (e.g., acute lymphocytic or chronic myeloblastic) and non-Hodgkin lymphomas in children. It is also used for the prevention or treatment of leukemic meningitis.

The drug is used for the treatment of acute myeloid leukemia in adults (for induction of remission or in cases of relapse), as well as a second-line treatment for relapsed acute lymphoblastic leukemia in adults and children. In children, it is also used for the induction of remission in acute myeloid leukemia in combination with cytarabine.
