It is used for diseases accompanied by oxygen starvation (hypoxia), such as pneumonia, bronchial asthma, pulmonary edema, heart failure, and coronary insufficiency. It is also applied in cases of poisoning by carbon monoxide, cyanide, or asphyxiating gases, during general anesthesia, and for the preparation of oxygen cocktails.
