The drug is used as an adjunct to diet and other treatment methods for severe elevation of triglyceride levels, mixed hyperlipidemia (if statins cannot be used or are not tolerated), and to reduce the progression of diabetic retinopathy in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus.
