The drug is used for the treatment of erosive reflux esophagitis, symptomatic treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), and to prevent recurrences of esophagitis. It is also prescribed for the treatment and prevention of gastric and duodenal ulcers caused by the use of anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), and for the eradication of Helicobacter pylori bacteria (in combination with antibiotics). Additionally, the drug is used in Zollinger–Ellison syndrome.

The drug is used for the treatment of erosive reflux esophagitis (a component of gastroesophageal reflux disease), the prevention of recurrent ulcer bleeding, and for the treatment of Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. In adults and children from 12 years of age, it is also prescribed for erosive reflux esophagitis.
