The drug is used for medical termination of pregnancy in the early stages (up to 49 days of amenorrhea) in combination with misoprostol. It is also used for cervical preparation before surgical termination of pregnancy in the first trimester, to enhance the effect of prostaglandins during pregnancy termination in the second or third trimesters, and for induction of labor in cases of intrauterine fetal death.

The drug is used for the treatment of gastric and duodenal ulcers, particularly those caused by the use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). It is also used for the prevention of ulcers in patients who are on continuous therapy with such agents.
