It is used to treat postmenopausal osteoporosis in women and bone loss in men at risk of fracture. It is also prescribed for bone loss caused by hormone reduction (testosterone) in patients with prostate cancer or due to long-term glucocorticoid treatment in individuals at risk of fracture.
