It is used to treat gastroesophageal reflux disease, stomach ulcers or ulcers in the upper part of the intestine (duodenal ulcer), ulcers caused by the bacterium Helicobacter pylori or by the use of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), and excess acid caused by a tumor in the pancreas. It may also be used to prevent ulcers from developing when taking anti-inflammatory medications.
