It is used for the short-term treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) in adults and children aged 1 to 18 years. In adults, it is also used to treat gastric ulcers caused by non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), to prevent their formation if these medications are taken, and to prevent rebleeding following an endoscopy for gastric or duodenal ulcer hemorrhage.
