This medicine is an antitumoral agent used to treat breast cancer (in patients at risk of heart problems), ovarian cancer, and multiple myeloma (in combination with bortezomib). It is also used to improve Kaposi's sarcoma.

It is used as a general anesthetic to induce unconsciousness during operations or treatments in adults and children over 1 month of age.
