This medicine is used in adults to treat secondary hyperparathyroidism in patients with severe kidney disease requiring dialysis, and also to reduce elevated blood calcium levels in adults with parathyroid carcinoma or primary hyperparathyroidism (if surgery is not possible). In children and adolescents (3–18 years), it is used to treat secondary hyperparathyroidism in severe kidney disease when other treatment methods are ineffective.
