This medicine is used in adults to treat secondary hyperparathyroidism (in patients with severe kidney disease requiring dialysis), to reduce high calcium levels in the blood in parathyroid cancer, and in primary hyperparathyroidism (when surgery is not possible). In children and adolescents, it is used to treat secondary hyperparathyroidism associated with severe kidney disease.
