    The medicine reduces the amount of acid in the stomach. It is used in adults and adolescents from 12 years of age to treat symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux disease (e.g., heartburn, pain when swallowing) and to prevent the recurrence of esophagitis. In adults, it also helps to prevent gastric and duodenal ulcers caused by non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs).
