The medicine is used in adults and adolescents over 12 years of age for the treatment of symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux disease (such as heartburn, pain upon swallowing, or acid regurgitation) and for the long-term treatment and prevention of recurrence of esophagitis. In adults, the medicine also helps to prevent gastric and duodenal ulcers caused by non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) if they must take them continuously.
