This medicine is used in adults to treat secondary hyperparathyroidism in patients with severe renal disease requiring dialysis, to reduce elevated calcium levels in patients with parathyroid carcinoma or primary hyperparathyroidism (if surgery is not possible). In children and adolescents, it is used to treat secondary hyperparathyroidism associated with severe renal disease when other treatment methods are not effective.
