This medicine is used in adults to prevent the formation of blood clots in the veins after hip or knee replacement surgery. It is also used to treat blood clots in the veins of the legs and in the blood vessels of the lungs, as well as to prevent them from recurring.

In adults, the medicine is used to prevent strokes and other blood clots (e.g., in atrial fibrillation) and to treat and prevent clots in the leg and lung veins. In children and adolescents (over 30 kg), it is used to treat clots in the veins or lungs.
