The medicine is used in adults and adolescents over 12 years of age to treat symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux disease (such as heartburn, pain on swallowing, or acid regurgitation) and for the long-term treatment and prevention of recurrence of esophagitis. In adults, it is also used to prevent gastric and duodenal ulcers in individuals who must take continuous anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs).
