This medicine is used in adults and adolescents over 12 years of age to treat symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux disease (such as heartburn, pain upon swallowing, or acid regurgitation) and to prevent their recurrence. In adults, it also helps to prevent gastric and duodenal ulcers caused by the use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs).

The medicine is used to treat stomach and intestinal diseases related to excessive acid secretion. It helps in the treatment of reflux esophagitis, gastric and duodenal ulcer disease, and Helicobacter pylori infection (in combination with antibiotics). It is also used in Zollinger-Ellison syndrome.
