    The medicine is used to treat symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux disease (such as heartburn, pain on swallowing, or acid regurgitation) and for the long-term treatment and prevention of recurrence of esophagitis. In adults, it also helps to prevent gastric and duodenal ulcers in individuals who must take continuous anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs).
