Desferal is used to remove excess iron and aluminum from the body. It is indicated for the treatment of chronic iron overload (for example, in cases of thalassemia or other anemias), acute iron poisoning, and chronic aluminum accumulation in patients with severe end-stage renal failure. It is also used for the diagnosis of iron or aluminum accumulation.
