This medicine is an antibiotic used to treat various serious infections caused by bacteria (such as staphylococci, streptococci, and pneumococci) or anaerobic germs. It is also used for certain infections of the female genital tract, fungal or protozoal infections in patients with a compromised immune system, and for infections caused by bacteria resistant to other antibiotics.

It is an antibacterial used in adults, children, and adolescents (from 1 to 17 years old) to treat skin and subcutaneous tissue infections. In adults, it is also used for heart infections (including heart valves) and bloodstream infections caused by the Staphylococcus aureus bacterium.

It is an antibiotic used to treat various serious infections caused by resistant bacteria, such as infections of the skin, bones, joints, central nervous system, heart (endocarditis), and pneumonia. It is also used orally to treat intestinal infections (pseudomembranous colitis) caused by the Clostridium difficile bacterium.
