It is used to treat diseases caused by problems with the parathyroid glands. In adults, it is used for secondary hyperparathyroidism in patients with severe kidney disease on dialysis, and to reduce high calcium levels in the blood in cases of parathyroid carcinoma or primary hyperparathyroidism. In children aged 3 to 18 years, it is used for secondary hyperparathyroidism related to severe kidney disease requiring dialysis.
